YOU CAN have a good night sleep.

Hey you! Yeah you over there! When was the last time you had a good night sleep just like the dog above? I bet it was a pretty long time ago eh? Well don't worry because we totally understand the situation that you are in!

We do understand that college students these days are facing hectic workloads in school (when i mean hectic, i mean REAL hectic ). For example, in just a week there can be two project assignments and two core module examinations. Furthermore, the lessons are still ongoing and you still have to keep up with the new topics as planned in the curriculum. In order to keep up, students often sacrifice their sleep time. On top of the limited sleep they allocated for themselves, the quality of sleep they have is also questionable. In order to preserve and protect the remaining few precious hours of sleep you have left, here are some of the ways you can maximise your sleeping hours.

1) Switch off your electronics

The number one distraction to sleep is none other than the use of your handphone. The current generation have a common tendency to fiddle with their handphones wherever they go, including just before sleeping. Studies have also shown that bright lights before sleep will affect the quality of sleep as it engages your brain which also means that the bright lights from your handphones may not be a good formula for a good sleep. So don't go surfing Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or viewing Snapchat stories when you can enjoy your good night sleep.

2) Have a fixed sleeping cycle.

Give yourself a fixed time to have sleep and wake up. This will condition your body's sleeping cycle and body clock. If you consistently fix a time to sleep at 12am and wake up at 7am ( recommended 7 hours of sleep ). You will realise that, you will feel tired when the time is up and will have no problem waking up in the morning.

3) Reduce Caffeine intake.

This one is a no-brainer. I mean, everyone knows that caffeine intake keeps you awake but just to let you know, one study found that consuming caffeine 6 hours before bedtime reduced total sleep time by 1 hour. Furthermore, you will wake up feeling way more lethargic and tired if you consumed caffeine before you sleep. Thus, try not to take any Coffee or Tea after evening time. And Yes, Tea contains caffeine. In fact, it contains more caffeine compared to Coffee. So next time you think about having a nice coffee before going to bed, think again.

4) Do your bed every morning when you wake up.

Would you prefer a messy bed with the bed sheet half exposed with blanket flung around or would you rather take a good rest in a bed that is properly tucked in with the blanket neatly folded. I know and i understand that it is a chore to make a bed every morning. Spare yourself just 1 minute to do your bed in the morning and you will soon realise the effect when you are going to sleep. The neatly tucked in bed will warmly welcome you to take a good night rest.

5) Wear socks before going to bed.

If you are a person who constantly wake up in the middle of the night due to cold feet, you just need to wear a warm pair of socks before going to bed. Studies have shown that a warm feet will result in a better sleeping experience. Some people prefer to sleep without socks but why not you give it a try tonight? Who knows? You may end up having a better sleep than you expect.
